About the Forensic Toxicology Service

The Forensic Toxicology Service has at its disposal the instrumentation and personnel needed to perform the toxicological analysis for the majority of organic substances, especially for drugs of abuse and medicinal drugs.

Which services do we supply?

Toxicological analysis of the following substances:



• Drugs of abuse: cocaine, opioids, cannabis, amphetamines and designer drugs
• Medicinal drugs: benzodiazepines, antidepressants, acetaminophen, anaesthetics, antiaggregants
• Pesticides: paraquat
• Carboxihemoglobine
• Other (contact with the Service)



In the following biological matrices:



• Classic matrices: blood/plasma, urine
• Alternative matrices: saliva (oral fluid), hair, sweat, meconium, breast milk
• Forensic matrices: vitreous humor, tissues (kidney, liver)



Toxicological reports

External quality controls

The lab participates in external quality controls organized by official organizations.

• Ethylic alcohol in blood inter-comparative tests organized by the Instituto Nacional de Toxicología y Ciencias Forenses (INTCF)
• Drugs of abuse in urine quality control organized by the Institut Municipal d'Investigació Mèdica (IMIM)
• Oral fluid proficiency testing program organized by the Research Triangle Institute (RTI)
• Drugs of abuse in hair quality control organized by the Society of Hair Testing (SOHT)
